After earning her first Grammy on February 5 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Viola Davis became the first person in history to acquire the EGOT distinction. Having won all four major entertainment awards—an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony—is referred to as having an EGOT.

At the 65th Annual Grammy Awards premiere celebration, which took place before to the main awards presentation, the actress was presented with an award for “Finding Me,” her biography, which received the award for best audiobook narration and narrative recording. Davis is the 18th person to enter the EGOT club,

joining the ranks of other notable individuals such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Legend, Mike Nichols, Mel Brooks, Jennifer Hudson, and Whoopi Goldberg, amongst others.

The victory comes on the heels of her previous successes, including an Emmy for her work on the series “How to Get Away With Murder” in 2015, a Tony Award for her appearance in “King Hedley” in 2001 and “Fences” in 2010, and an Academy Award for “Fences” in 2017. Davis is the third Black woman to earn the EGOT rating; she is the latest.

Davis said in her award speech that she created the book in honor of Viola, who was six years old at the time, to commemorate her life, her joy, her pain, and her everything. “And this has been quite the adventure. I simply EGOT!”
